Newborn Photography

Newborn photography is a specialised industry and requires invested training. I’m proud to have done different newborn training over the years to make sure your baby is in safe hands. The main focus of the session is your baby; minimal props are used and when they are, baby is the first thing you’ll see.

I aim for your session to be within 2 weeks of birth. Of course if this is after due to medical problems or similar, don’t worry. Newborns tend to be most sleepy at this time but can be up to 4 weeks.
If this time goes over, I like to advise you on how baby may be more awake and may not be able to be put into the poses as easy, or at all. This is due to baby being more awake and bones hardening. This is the reason we prefer to take the images at such a young age.

Frequently Asked questions

When should I book my newborn session?

It's best to arrange your Newborn session from your first scan or as early as possible after. As babies don't always arrive on their due date I will book you in for around a week after & ask that you give me a simply text, call or email to let me know your baby has arrived within the first 48 hours and we can arrange a date for your session.

How old is the best age for my Newborn Session?

The age of the babies can make a difference in what type of poses you are able to position them in and whether they will like it or not. Of course, all babies are different, and it’s not to say that one baby will be easier to pose over another one merely based upon age, but generally speaking, the age of the baby can dictate how the session will run. Younger babies tend to curl up much easier into poses than older babies, they don’t mind too much about having their clothes off while being in a comfortable warm room. For this reason, I mostly photograph your little ones between 5-14 days.

How long will my session be?

Some newborn sessions can be long depending on baby. I allocate 2-4 hours for each newborn session, this allows time for feeding, changing, settling etc.

Do you do family photos? Can we join in?

Yes of course! I think it is really important that you exist in photos. I usually do the family shots at the beginning or end of the session, whichever you prefer. If you bring any other children / siblings I'll suggest that we do them first as they can get a little bored waiting until the end.

What do I need to bring with me?

Nothing really, except you & your gorgeous little family! I have a variety of handmade props, which will incorporate different themes and colours for me to create a variety of different looks. Most newborn photographs are done using my props or nude but if you want to bring a particular outfit, or comforter you would like me to photograph, thats fine with me!

What if my baby poops on you, your props or anywhere in the studio?

Lots of people worry about this. It happens all the time, it comes with the job and it’s honestly no problem. Everything is washable and most things wipeable. If your baby poops or pees on a blanket, I simply turn it around or we change it - everything gets washed after every session anyway so please don't worry.

Can I take photos of my baby on set with my phone?

I must insist you do not head over and take photos of your baby on set. You are here for me to take beautiful, professional keepsake images for you. Let me take care of the photographs while you sit and relax, admiring your precious newborn. One thing I do allow, is when you are sat on the chair, you can take a behind the scenes photo, but I must be in the photograph. I love seeing your behind the scenes photographs of your newborn session here with me.

How will we view our images?

I will send you a sneak preview from your session within a couple of days. Once they are all ready I will upload them onto a private password protected gallery for you to view & choose your images from.

Do you mind us sharing images on social media?

Not at all!!! I'd love you to share them with your family & friends. If you could link it to me, share my posts or tag me I'd be really grateful! It really helps my little businesses be seen!
